How do you get rid off your facebook account?

How do you sign out permantly? I've looked all over, that appears no way of getting rid off your account. Does anyone one know the way to do it?

you must deactivate. go up to the top right corner where it says "account" select it, and the bottom option is to "deactivate"
Reply:go on your facebook, and look up the group 'how to delete your facebook'. it's the most comprehensive way i've seen so far, and they address many of the issues(trust me, it's more than just clicking 'deactivate', b/c facebook keeps your info in their system anyway) in making sure your facebook is permanently deleted.
Reply:sign in. click on the account tab in the top right hand corner. at the bottom of the page it says de-activate account. hey-presto!! :)
