Can someone give me a estimated cost of sending images captured on cell phones to a email account?

My wife and I finally upgraded our ATT wireless plan with new phones and have the ability to take pictures now. I am wondering what the cost of this might be using the smallest size image sent to my yahoo email account, can anyone suggest a estimated cost?
Can someone give me a estimated cost of sending images captured on cell phones to a email account?
Picture messages cost $0.25 per message sent or received regardless of the size of the actual message. International picture mesages are $0.50 per message in case you were wondering. Hope I've helped!

Can an employeer put a payroll deposit in your account then withdraw it?

My boss direct deposited my pay check then withdrew it or canceled it. They then gave me a paper check but they did not notify me of any of this. Is there anything that I can do becuase that caused me to bounce checks. Are there any laws that prohibit this what can I do about it? Any links to info about this in GA would be greatly appreciated.
Can an employeer put a payroll deposit in your account then withdraw it?
There is no law for that. An employer can withdraw funds from your checking account if deposited

in error. They can also replace it with a check if they want to. What you have is a payroll department that should communicate better but no a crime. Sorry.
Reply:They can't withdraw it once they've deposited it, but they might be able to cancel the payment before the payment is settled.

Not much you can do about it unless your bank statement clearly shows that the bank paid it out as a check - then you'd have to go after the bank for an unauthorized withdrawl.
Reply:girl, that is so illegal!!

once they got the money out from your bank, it means they have your account number and all other personal stuff that they can also get the money from your savings!!
Reply:Don't know if they have on here where you live but check out this site.

Reply:Most likely he canceled it. Only you can withdraw from your own account. I can see some legal steps you can follow. There is the lawyer avenue specially if it caused you to default in your payments and were penalized for it. You can explain in a nice manner to your boss and hope that he has one hell of a good reason for what happened and is willing to make amends. Also the bank or credit union should be made responsible for not notifying you. It not only puts you in bad with the lenders but also your credit record suffers. Good luck
Reply:Depositing to your payroll is a prerogative of your boss since it was he/she who did that in the first place...on the other hand, your boss cannot withdraw from your account unless you can give an authorization to do so...if your boss doesn't have this authority, all he or she can do is to debit back the amount deposited to your account and credit it back to his/her account...There are no laws governing this...he or she can do that but if it happens that you were able to withdraw the money from your account, then you will get it at no problem.. but it so happened that your boss was quick enough to do this ahead of you so tough luck on your side...hope this helps...
Reply:no but they can cancel it
Reply:To be honest I am not exactly sure but....

It wouldn't make sense to me if that was legal to withdraw money.

However, I would think that they can cancel a pending transaction. So if the money hasn't been fully transferred then it can be taken away... Unfortunatly!!!

But again, I am not positive.
Reply:no
Reply:Only if it was a mistake and the money was never yours to begin with.
Reply:Being as though we live in the wonderful right to work state of GA, they may have some right to do this...I would talk to your bank and see if they can offer you any options. Sometimes if my direct deposit doesn't go through, they give me a check because the system doesn't work that week?
Reply:no! you should report this to police

How can i eliminate internet access on a user account?

I have windows xp and i want to set up a user account without any internet access. How do I do this. My firewall wont allow different settings for each user. Is there some way to shut off access to the browser for just that one user account?
How can i eliminate internet access on a user account?
hi,

install a personal firewall like ZONEALARM http://www.zonelabs.com then create a password for it! it is seen on a 3rd tab to the right of the first screen, once u install the software!

when another user launches internet explore or any internet based program it asks for permission to go to internet, but only a user who knows the password for ZA can grant it! u only need to type a password once a session,

without the password ... no one can........ close ZA, Unistall or Kill prosess tree in taskmanager!!!! its cool...

If I put in a cheque to leave my account and into my dads account when will it leave MY account?

I will be putting a cheque in to my dad and we are also with the same bank. Will it take the usual 3 days or will it be a virtually instant transfer due to being in the same bank?
If I put in a cheque to leave my account and into my dads account when will it leave MY account?
It will leave your account straight away and take 3 days to reach your Dad's. The best thing to do would be to cash your cheque and pay the cash into your Dad's. It will then get credited instantly.

How to have computer icons appear only on my account desktop?

I want to get some games but they are rated M so we can't let my little brother see them. So I want to know how I can get the icons not show up on his account when I download the games. So how do I make them show up only on my account? Thanks
How to have computer icons appear only on my account desktop?
Open My Computer. Navigate to C:\ Users\ Public\ Desktop (on XP: C:\Documents and Settings\ All Users\ Desktop). Open another instance of My Computer, and navigate to the same path, but replace "Public" or "All Users" with your user name.

Drag the shortcuts from the public Desktop folder into your own Desktop folder.
Reply:Well, well you install some games, usually they will ask if you want other people on your computer to see them when they log on to their own account just click no and the game or game icon will only show on your account...also, if it does show the icon, you can either put it so that your kid bro needs to have your permission through a password to play that game through account control and permissions...and/or you can change the icon itself to a different one...like say, my computer or something
Reply:you can select to do a custom install, in which you deselect the check box to create a desktop shortcut. Or once its finished you can just right click the icon and delete it. When you do this you can still run the game from the start menu by typing it in, or looking for it.
Reply:When you're installing the game, it usually asks if you want to do it: Simple, Complete, or Customize. You can choose to install the game only on your account, so no trace of it will be on your brother's.
Reply:Put them under YOUR account desktop folder...

C:\Documents and settings\YOUR ACCOUNT\desktop

Make sure they are not under \All Users\Desktop, and your account will be the only one to display them.
Reply:you would have to go into his accounts %26amp; delete all of his icons after you put it up on yours.
Reply:on xp put them in C:\Documents and Settings\[YOUR NAME]\Desktop

where [YOUR NAME] is the name of your account
Reply:put some password in the administrator..he cant access your pc then. ;)

What is the term used when the court orders to put a hold on a person's account?

This hold is placed when the person owes a company or another party money, and the hold is placed until everything has been settled.

My mind is blank today, it's on the tip of my tongue, bonus for the first one to answer it right
What is the term used when the court orders to put a hold on a person's account?
The court order "Freezes" your account. It's something like wage Garnishment.

Look at the weblink I provided, it explains the process, according to Illinois law.
Reply:When they just want to get you attention, they put a hold on your account, so you can't make any withdrawals. If you still refuse to pay and there's a judgement against you, they can take the money. Then it's a seizure. If they go to your employers and have part of your pay check redirected, it's called garnishing your wages.

How can I Fax a document to my email account in pdf format.?

No scanner, but I do have a fax. Can I get the document into my pdf files this way?
How can I Fax a document to my email account in pdf format.?
I think you can only send fax to your email if you subscribe to fax to email services like Onesuite Fax Plus. You send fax from your computer using a program from Onesuite and get it from your email in pdf file.

I don't think its possible to send a fax from a regular fax machine to your email.
Reply:a big if (s) are in order here:

if you can fax to your email, then you can do a save-as if you have a pdf converter in your word processor. most do, even open office will do it think. you would have to save the fax and reopen it in your word processor to do this.

other option would be to have a friend with a scanner scan it in for you and send you the file. most new all-in-ones will have an option to scan via pdf. and if not, at least you will have the doc in a word processed format and there are free converters out there.

Question about the way interest accrues in a savings account?

Say I have $50K in a savings account, and in the middle of the month, before the interest is added at the end, I withdraw half. Do I lose interest on the amount withdrawn from the first half of the month?
Question about the way interest accrues in a savings account?
Most savings accounts use the average daily balance. So if your deposit is there for half the month, you get half the interest.
Reply:It's usually based on the average daily balance.

So if for half the month you had a balance of 50k and half the month you have a balance of 25k, your interest would be calculated on 37.5k.

Some banks do it differently though, so you should check the T%26amp;C of your account.

Is it free to withdrawal money from your checking account?

My bank is bank of the west. I know theirs a fee to withdrawal from a atm but is their a fee if you walk inside the bank an ask for a withdrawal?
Is it free to withdrawal money from your checking account?
I've never heard of a bank charging it's customer's for normal withdrawals through the tellers... ATM I would understand since it's a convenience thing... but it's ridiculous to be charge by the teller just for a simply withdrawal. You may want to contact the back and specify their T's and C's...
Reply:A checking account is called a demand deposit account. This means the bank must pay you, upon demand, money from that account. However, there can be limitations. If you happen to have a whole wad of cash, and you are trying to withdraw a substantial amount, then the bank can request that you give them advance notice so that they can have it available. Also, some banks offer checking accounts where they limit the number of transactions in trade for a reduced monthly fee. In this case, they can impose a transaction fee after you reach a certain number of allowed "free" transactions.
Reply:yes you are right , the atm machines have fees sometimes it can be $2.00 to $3.00 fees

No i have not heard of any bank give a fee to people if they walk in or use the drivethought windows to withdraw money from their accounts.

you might have to call the service deportment and ask them about any fees that this band might have .
Reply:Not normally.....unless you have a set number of times you can do that per month and you exceed that amount. They charge you a fee to use their ATM? You need to find a new bank.....almost all major banks charge nothing to use their ATMs!
Reply:No there is no charge. Just walk up and ask for a counter check, make it out to cash, sign the front and back. And that's it!
Reply:There usually is not a charge. You could call them up and ask.

Do you have to transfer funds to your paypal account to shop online?

I transfered 400 dollars from my bank account to my paypal account. I am not sure if i had to do that to buy stuff. does paypal take the money right from my bank account? or do you have to transfer money to your paypal account first?
Do you have to transfer funds to your paypal account to shop online?
While it isn't necessary to transfer funds into Paypal for online purchases, sometimes its nice to know that its already there for when you would like to use it.
Reply:Paypal can and will take the money directly from your account. No need to transfer it there first. (This is why they have you confirm the account and input all the information)

How can I create my son a Xbox Live account?

My son likes playing FIFA 08 online using my gamertag, but he has a tendency to quit early. I don't want this to affect my rating. I can't figure out how to create one for him though.
How can I create my son a Xbox Live account?
go to gamestop and ask for an xbox live card then it will say the directions. GOOD LUCK!!
Reply:If you want him to play online you will need to get him his own account. You cannot share gold accounts. Your best bet is to create him a Silver account and let him play the PC if he is just going to quit out.

Depending on his age you are better off not allowing him to play online if he is going to be a poor sport and quit early.

Your options are:

1. Buy a new XBOX Live Gold subscription

2. Give him a silver account and tell him he needs to learn to be a good sport before he can play online with other people. Losing doens't mean quitting in the middle of a game.

Besides there is no shame in losing to the PC. At least the PC wont make fun of you for losing and you keep your gamer card clean of people annoyed your son quit early.
Reply:idk if u can have another live account on the same system, try to make one though using a new gamertag

Tenant wrote a bad check from a closed bank account?

My father's tenant wrote him a rent check from a closed bank account. I told him to contact his attorney on Monday but I was wondering what the procedure would be? Also, what is the penalty for his tenant who wrote the bad check?

BTW, the tenant his well into her early 40s and lives with her family in the house so its not like someone who is younger is doing it.
Tenant wrote a bad check from a closed bank account?
Writing a check with insufficient funds in one thing, which subjects the writer to all sorts of bank fees plus legal processes to collect the money properly, but writing a check from a closed account is a crime called "bad check". The bad check crime is a misdemeanor if it's below a certain amount (search for it on google), and it's a FELONY if it's over a certain amount. The process now is to call the police and ask how to file criminal charge for bad check-writing. By the way, the general definition of a felony is a crime that comes with a sentence of one year or more. Yes, your father's tenant probably committed a FELONY and he should not let this slide. THIS IS THE BEST answer you got (so far, anyway).
Reply:Every one of the above answers is correct, but first you should check with the tenant as mentioned. I did that once, just because I picked up an old checkbook without thinking.

Depending on the circumstances, if there is a late fee in the rental agreement that can be charged, and it is usually considered reasonable and customary for the tenant to pay any costs charged by your father's bank for the bad check.

In the event this was deliberate, you will need to do something along the lines of the following (your exact state rules may vary)

1%26gt; Notify the tenant by certified mail of the bad check and any charges, include a summary of any discussions. Also advise them of date payment will be due to avoid legal action.

2%26gt; If not paid that date, you will file a claim in your local landlord tenant court (might just be the local court). They all have different procedures.

3%26gt; From LT court you can start eviction procedures. Costs of such can be billed to the tenant but at that point you won't be seeing any money.

Reply:It depends on the landlord/tenant laws where the property is.

In California you don't need an attorney, you post a "3 day notice to pay or quit" on the front door, asap.

As far as a penalty, if he wrote in a late fee in the lease then the tenant has to pay that with the back rent, or move.

If they do nothing then your father has to contact an eviction service and kick them out.
Reply:maybe you should contact the tenant who wrote the check. it could have been an accident. look into her past payments anf if they have been on time and all cleared, I wouldn't get the court system involved. handle it yourself. if you cant resolve it yourself, then go through the courts.
Reply:Take her to Small Claims Court. It could also be a matter for the police.

Is it legal for a Bank to move my account to a different bank without my permission?

After my graduation, I consolidated my Student Loans with ISM Loans. Today, I tried to accesss my account online to make a payment but couldn't access my account. I called ISM. They told me that my account was moved to an X bank and that my payments should be sent to X bank.

Is this legal?
Is it legal for a Bank to move my account to a different bank without my permission?
It's common practice among banks, even loan originators and mortgage loans.

Banks typically sell your debt to another financial institution, so you now need to pay to that new institution.

It's perfectly legal. There's a huge market for debt buying and selling.
Reply:It's very legal. Some of those banks have an investor lined up to buy the loans before you even close on the loan...in some cases as I found out the banks have to make sure they can be able to sell your loan before they grant it to you. It should have said so on your application that ISM has the right to sell your loan whenever.

You should have received letters in the mail telling you of this change from both banks. Funny thing with me is my loan was sold to my credit card company so one day I logged on and saw my loan information on there before I even saw the letters!!! I called my original lenders and they told me to continue making payment to them until I receive a letter stating that I should change lenders. Thats strange that ISM told you to switch lenders even though you have received no communication from X bank. I don't think you would be liable for any late fees since there was a communication breakdown somewhere.
Reply:Yes it is. You should have received a notice in the mail stating that the loan had been sold to the other bank.

Before you do anything, call the other bank to verify the existence of the account.
Reply:Yes it is legal, but they should have told you before making the switch. Banks are owned by the federal government which means, they can do as they wish. Total power etc. etc. It is legal, unfortunatly, so dont fret! :)
Reply:yes since banks can change the servicing rights on loans at any time

How do you describe your identity? Write a brief account of your strengths and weaknesses? What is your viewp

How do you describe your identity? Write a brief account of your strengths and

weaknesses? What is your viewpoint about success? Has your concept of your-self

changed overtime? How?

Please could anyone tell me the answer to this question
How do you describe your identity? Write a brief account of your strengths and weaknesses? What is your viewp
Identity: Artist at heart but too worrisome and practical to pursue that interest as a career. Determined to give any future kids a better life than her mother gave her.

Strengths: Determined, I do what I set my mind to. If it's important enough to me, I'll succeed. Individuality, I don't try to fit in, if I fit in it's because I happen to enjoy doing the same things that make people fit in, not because I'm trying. I don't give in to peer pressure. If I do something, it's because I wanted to for me.

Weaknesses: Overly emotional, my emotions get in my way and influence my decisions more often than they should. Poor self-concept, even though if I think about it rationally, I can show myself hard evidence of otherwise, I can't believe that I am attractive, intelligent, thin, funny, interesting, or in any other way desirable. I'm constantly assuming people only talk to me because they're "just being nice". It takes me a long time before I truly believe somebody is my friend because they actually like me and want to spend time with me. I'm convinced that someday my boyfriend will find somebody better, and assume he already has but hasn't noticed yet.

I'm going to sound a bit like Freud here, but these problems stem from my childhood and I can't seem to get them resolved.

I'm also stubborn, which, depending on the situation can be a strength or a weakness. It gets me what I want sometimes, and other times it makes me look like a fool.

Viewpoint on success: ANYBODY can be successful if they strive to do their best in what they set their mind to BUT they have to do this for the things they want to succeed in for themselves. Not because mom will be proud or because they'll make 200k a year. Because they truly, really want to do what they do. Whether it's finger painting in pre-school, or deciding what to major in, in college. You can have a 10k annual salary and still be successful.

Self-concept changed: Sometimes when I look at myself in the mirror I can actually see that I'm pretty. It's becoming easier and easier for me to see myself the way others do.

How:Mostly due to my mother kicking me out of my house at age 18. It was a horrible place to live and was utter hell emotionally. I switched schools, moved into a new household and was given the opportunity to come out of my shell. I became fairly popular at school (not super popular, but people from every group knew who I was) in the two months I was there. I ended up living in a loving, stable, accepting household.
Reply:My character is a mix of both my strengths and my weaknesses. I am a person blessed by strengths and weaknesses and also burdened by strengths and weaknesses. They are who I am. I have learned to live with and accept both aspects of my character. I am loved and I love while having both of these qualities. I have and always will live with the prospect and expectations that I will improve and become a better person with the help of God.
Reply:i am a person who feels things very deeply and thinks way too much. i tend towards self-centeredness, but am capable of great empathy if the circumstances are right. i believe that i am always learning, growing, and changing, and that year by year if i were introduced to my former self i would have a hard time recognizing her. my only real idea of success is happiness, something completely ephemeral and seemingly forever out of my grasp, but it is the only thing i really want in life. it is the details that are constantly changing, just like me. compassion and mercy are my highest ideals. shame and anxiety are my biggest problems, leading me to do harm to myself and others.

did i mention i have a flair for the dramatic?
Reply:Well, it'll take too long to describe myself like how you ask. I'd right a book about it if I started.

But one strength I have is an open mind and the ability to read people really well. I'm not popular like the preppy people in school, but I'm well liked by everybody.
Reply:My strength is to be able to always hit at people's weakest areas no matter how well I know them. My weak point, I'm not usually tactfull. I think that success is working hard. I don't know what has changed over time.

What is the highest credit line you've seen, or had upon opening a NEW credit card account?

I have excellent credit 750+ and I'm curious if people have been granted high credit limits when they first opened a credit card account, and also state which branch was the issuer and what your credit score was if you can, thanks.
What is the highest credit line you've seen, or had upon opening a NEW credit card account?
I have a discover credit card with 20,000 credit limit in it. When I applied for it I had pretty good credit, around 720-750. If you are interested in getting a credit card that offers high credit limit, here is where I got mine: http://www.creditcardxpo.com/high-limit-...
Reply:Use the search engine like google or yahoo to brainstorm some ideas first if you want to obtain the massive information,if you do not want to spend too much time, here is a good resource for your reference about your questions.http://creditcard.online-supporthome.inf...
Reply:Discover Card - less than three years of perfect payment with a 720 score got me a $9,600 limit to start.

Now, with B/A I've worked up to $5,000 between all of my cards over those nearly 3 years. I went from having one Visa with $700 to four cards and nearly $15,000 in less than a year.
Reply:I have seen 20k with a long history and excellent credit.
Reply:I don't pay much attention I think mine have started at about 5K but AMEX might have been 10K. Credit score is between 755-807. They may also look at how much credit you already have. If you are new to credit cards the limits might be around $300.

Which bank is better for a basic joint checking account, Bank of America or Wells Fargo?

We have to go with something national since we're going to be full-time RV'ing with my husband's job. These are the only two national banks with branches in our home city. It looks like Wells Fargo has more branches in the locations we're likely to be in. Our current bank only has branches in one state so we need to switch. We'll need to do online bill pay too but other than that we don't need a lot of extras. Anyone had both and have a preference?
Which bank is better for a basic joint checking account, Bank of America or Wells Fargo?
Try Chase
Reply:I used to bank at Wells Fargo and they have the worst customer service and they are not honest with the account holder's money. My advice is go to Bank of America in which you can keep the change and pay your bills online.
Reply:I have been using Bank of America for several years. Happy with the service.

Are there other options to get a checking account if have a bad record?

because of mistakes, my record for the bank credit reports isn't good and can't open a checking anywhere. this makes it more difficult to cash checks and such. are there other options or financial institutions with checking that will give second chances? any helpful tips are appreciated.
Are there other options to get a checking account if have a bad record?
well depending on how bad your record is and if you have cleared up things with the institutions you have problems with some places might be willing to work with you. I know places might allow you to have a savings account and if your savings account stays in good standings for a period of time they may let you open a checking with some stipulations, like no debit card for 6 months or only checks. It depends which institution you choose and how bad your record is.

No you wont lose your characters, you can unubscribe and join back in 2 years and you will have all of your characters and items, that is unless the game changed in some way and that item from two years past is now gone

I need to withdraw money from my Nationwide Current Account, however I only have my passport and a letter from the bank with my name and address on it. Is this enough proof without my account number and sort code?

Sure can mate!!!

Is there any way to have an iTunes account without entering any credit card information?

Personaly, I hate giving out information like a CC# unless it is a place I intend to frequently shop. Too much room for error or theft that way. With that in mind, I suggest purchasing a $25.00 Gift Visa and use about $15 off of it. Then you should be able to use it for things like this. Maybe not, but it's worth a try since your financial risk is so low.

At what age can I open a checking account?

What is the normal minimum age to set-up a checking account at a bank is it 16 or 18? I was thinking that it was 16 because all you need is just a driver's license and two other proofs of identification.
At what age can I open a checking account?
depends on what bank!

i worked at bofa....and you need to be 18 yrs old to open a checking account. you can be any age to open a savings account but your parents have to be there with you...and their name is primary on the account

you CANT get a checkcard/atm card in your name, BUT there's some bankers who will let you.
Reply:any age provided you have a parent as a trustee picture id and cash!!!
Reply:As the saying goes, " If you got the money honey, we got the time."

I would say you could open an account as soon as you get a social security card. As long as an adult is also on the account.
Reply:The age will vary by bank, but most, if not all, will require an adult co-signer for anyone under 18.
Reply:I work for a bank, and I know at ours it is sixteen with a joint account owner, or 18 for just yourself. Also a debit card cannot be ordered unless you are 18. But you will want to call your bank, because honestly, not all banks out there follow federal rules, so you might get lucky.
Reply:At my bank I could open one at sixteen but I had to have my parents cosign and all that, so their name is on my account until i turn eighteen
Reply:Call the bank. You may be able to set up an account when you have identification.

Anyone had a successful deposit into their bank account using full tilt poker?

I just recently put money into full tilt poker using my visa debit with not problems. I am now wanting to cash out some winnings and was curious if anyone has had a successful deposit into a bank account? I've heard of third parties and checks in the mail and the like but was really curious about bank account deposits specifically. I've read on here of people getting their checks by mail but I haven't read of anyone successful using the bank account method. Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Anyone had a successful deposit into their bank account using full tilt poker?
full tilt poker is the most evasive, criminal company I have ever dealt with. I deposited many times on that site, up to $1000, and each time I tried to withdraw money they found some way to prevent me from doing so, or to stall the withdraw knowing that I would play with the money. Finally they sent me a check which took up to a month. They have no customer service other than email, and if they don't want to relpy they just won't. I hate that site and will never put money in it again.
Reply:i have had a hard time with them until I started using instadebit with them it is a little better. If I were you I would try more than one site you can get all the bonuses out there. Here are some deposit codes for free cash and bonuses of you are interestded. http://www.winpokercash.com/poker-deposi...
Reply:I was successful in depositing money into my Full Tilt Account from a credit card but when I went to use the program it asked to me to login and it didn't recognize my newly set up password. I did a password reset and haven't heard from them in over 2 days....
Reply:Take a look at this free E-book about playing poker online. Inside it is a very basic method that can help anyone (even new players) profit wildly from online poker.

Has anybody invested money in a retirement target account with either t rowe or vanguard ?

Looking to hear some opinions and what happens? Do you invest every month? Does the fund take care of all the investment? If a fund says a 10% return does this mean what you will earn on your money before tax or is that the gross return out of which they take their fees?

How is the return on these retirement target funds viewed for tax purposes? Do you get taxed on the gross return, only on the net return after fees?
Has anybody invested money in a retirement target account with either t rowe or vanguard ?
I have a Roth IRA invested in a T. Rowe Price target date fund and have been very happy with it. I contribute monthly via EFT from my checking account. I consider T. Rowe Price one of the best mutual fund houses out there.

Target date funds are specifically designed for tax-sheltered retirement accounts - 401(k), 403(b), IRAs, etc. It wouldn't make sense to hold them in a taxable account as they would not be tax-efficient.
Reply:you bet ye, very good fund.

If there is a hold on my school account for tuition does my fiancial aid reward cover it?

Also would I even receive the reward if there is a hold on the account?
If there is a hold on my school account for tuition does my fiancial aid reward cover it?
If the hold is preventing you from enrolling in the next semester, then your financial aid will not cover it. The reason for this is that you have to be enrolled before you can get financial aid. If you cannot enroll, then you can't get financial aid.
Reply:No. Your financial aid will only cover for the year filed. Say you file for 2009 it will not cover 2008 classes.

I want to invest money in a retirement account. What product should I choose?

I'm single and 45 and have recently paid off my home. I have no debt. I will stay in my house at least another seven years. I want to invest in a product where I can deposit a fixed amount every month for five years and get a guaranteed rate of return. I already have a 401K, Roth IRA, savings accounts and cd's. What products do you suggest?

. One poster said invest in your children. The heck with that! You have 20 years of work ahead of you to build yourself YOUR nest egg.

Your taxes are probably high so you might go with tax-exempt securities. ... or T-bills.

"...Municipal bonds may be general obligations of the issuer or secured by specified revenues. Interest income received by holders of municipal bonds is often exempt from the federal income tax and from the income tax of the state in which they are issued. "

It's also said that paying off a 5.5% mortgage is the worst thing you can do! That's a very cheap 'loan' and you get to take some of that off your income taxes.

Anyway, try to read a lot of books about investing. Start with "Investing for Dummies". Fool.Com is a good learning site, too. Then once you know how to talk the talk, walk down to your investment banker and ask questions, for FREE. .

You might just decide to stay with what you have and load those programs up. Don't be afraid to accept a 5% return for life. .
Reply:There are more mutual funds on the trading boards than actual, individual stocks! Each of them have different projected rates of return - that helps determine their share price.

If you're looking for fixed rates of return, you know most of the options, T-Bonds, CD's, Savings Accounts. There are also Corporate Bonds that pay annuities (yearly dividend-like payments.)

Best advice - talk to a financial planner, you might find that you are less risk-averse than you think and might enjoy dabbling in non-fixed rate return vehicles.
Reply:Now it's time to invest in your children.

Has anybody ever heard of a creditor being able to slap a lien on your checking account to collect?

I saw a woman on tv that had a lien slapped on her. She was able to fight it because it was a scam but her bank charged her a $100 fee

anyhow. Also she had to get a lawyer.
Has anybody ever heard of a creditor being able to slap a lien on your checking account to collect?
Not only can they put a lien on your account, they do charge you fees which are non refundable, no matter the situation. But the lein can stay on there for several weeks, once you get it released it takes about 3 business days to come off your accounts. It also can be placed on any account associated with your social security # so if you have a joint account with someone and it is mainly their account, they get screwed too. I have seen liens from the government, local and federal, I have also seen liens from credit card companies. In most cases it is best to get a lawyer.
Reply:If they sue you for the amount owed and win (or if you don't show up) then yes they can get their money from your bank account. Definitely need a lawyer, if it will do any good.
Reply:YEP, YOU NEED A LAWYER,
Reply:If you have a government lien slapped on your account they hold twice the amount of the lien plus the fees.
Reply:A creditor can take a person to court and get a garnishment order against the person who owes them money...this means they can get up to 25% of their paycheck in states that allow it and they can have their banking account's siezed and their tax return siezed...so yes I have heard of this, it is common when people don't pay their debts. I have never heard of a bank paying a garnishment without a court order.

Can I rollover my 401k to a similar account outside US due to my job transfer?

I am neither a US citizen nor a green card holder. I came in as resident alien (MNC) on work visa and have funds in 401k account. I have been transferred to a country where there are no income taxes. They have a similar 401k plan (however no tax). Will I be able to rollover all my US 401k funds to my new account without any tax impact in US? In my next year there will be no US income and I guess I don't have to file return (since I am not a citizen or PR). Would it help if I withdraw or rollover next year?

Has anyone seen this done or done for themselves? Thanks for your time and any answer.
Can I rollover my 401k to a similar account outside US due to my job transfer?
When you take a distribution from the 401k, taxes will be due unless you roll it over to another plan qualified under the IRS code. Foreign retirement accounts are not qualified plans, so this transfer would not be tax deferred.

If the amount of the distribution is small, you may not owe any income tax because of your standard deduction, but you will owe the 10% penalty. My advice would be to have that penalty withheld before you withdraw it, and then file a return for the year of withdrawal and pay the penalty.

If the account is large, you could take partial withdrawals over several years and avoid income taxes, but not the penalty.
Reply:yes
Reply:No, you can't do that!

In order to do a tax-free rollover, the plan must be a qualified retirement plan. Foreign plans are not qualified retirement plans under the US Tax Code.

You may be able to leave the 401(k) in place and let it continue to accumulate. The plan administrator can let you know if that's possible.

Or you could do a tax-free rollover to an IRA here in the US and allow it to continue to grow.

If you simply withdraw the funds they will be fully taxed as ordinary income. If you are under age 59 1/2 when you withdraw the funds there will be an additional 10% penalty tax on top of any taxes due to the withdrawal.

What makes you think a new account is going to fix your black screen? You need to figure out why your screen is totally black because getting another account isn't going to fix that if something is wrong with the computer.

What social and religious factors are given to account for the harsh response to withcraft?

It definately started with the rise of Christianity. When attempting to make Christianity a popular religion, pagan holidays were incorporated to attract the pagan masses (which constituted the majority of the population). You can see many similarities between Christianity and Pagan religions...the Christians took many Pagan symbols, altered them slightly, and called them their own.

Since then, those who practiced any form of witchcraft were persecuted. Today, few understand the basis of pagan religions and associate paganism and witchcraft with devil worship ( again, spurred on by Christianity). As Christianity is still one of the most widely practiced religion in the world, people hold onto that stereotype.
What social and religious factors are given to account for the harsh response to withcraft?
Bottom line I think it is as simple as "fear of the unknown and anything that is different".
Reply:Basically, it boiled down to eliminating the competition.

The early church wanted ABSOLUTE control over the hearts and minds of the people, and would tolerate nothing that could be even marginally seen as conflicting or competing with that.

The "dark ages" were indeed a time when greed for power ran rampant and ruled the day - and the greatest source of power was to be found within the church.

Those condemned as "witches" were usually just free spirits who did not want to bow to the will of the church - or any other oppressing organization.

The damning word "heretic" literally means nothing more sinister than "one who is able to choose", and individual freedom of choice is the very LAST thing the church wanted the people to have.

Often, witch hunts were fronted as an excuse to get rid of a political rival or seize the property of someone whose wealth the accuser envied. The infamous Salem witch trials were a prime exampole of this. With the possible exception of the black slave whose arrest and accusation started it all, EVERY person tried and executed in Salem at that time was involved in a political movement to break away from Salem and start another community (which they were going to call "Topsfield") on the other side of the river.
