Can you add someone on to your bank account for them to deposit their checks into?

I think he was put on check systems about 6 years ago, and I heard it remains on your record for 7. Will they check into this before adding him on to the account?

If you are just wanting this person to run deposits to the bank for you, you do not need to add him to your account. Banks will accept deposits from anyone. Just make sure you have the deposit slip filled out beforehand, and endorse the back of the check with and write "For Deposit Only" underneath your signature.

Also, if he does have a Chex Systems alert, have him call Chex Systems and clear up the issue with them. It is true that those alerts are reported for 7 years.
Reply:You don't need to add them. Most banks, will allow a person to deposit money in another person's account, with a deposit slip (with account info) and a check, and have them add "deposit only" that way you don't have someone else on your account.
Reply:Generally it is permitted depending on the "relationship". In such an account, as both of you share the responsibilities, (and agree) there might not be a problem.

Joint account is an answer to lots of problems.
Reply:I would not do that, have the person get their own account.

If his/her check has a problem you will suffer the consequences

if he/she deposit a fraudulent check you will suffer the consequences.

There is just not a good reason for someone to ask someone else to do that for them.

friends and money do not mix well
Reply:A ChexSystem record only remains for 5 years(it is not the same as a regular credit report listing). So if it was 6 years he should no longer be listed.

Now, before you add someone to your account you have to understand that you will be equally responsible. So if they overdraft the account and you don't pay it back then it will go on both of your records. If he bounces checks, you are both responsible. If he decides to wipe out your account the bank will do nothing because he was authorized.

I would suggest you let him try and get his own first of all. Until you are sure he can handle his money this is probably the safest plan.
Reply:YOU DON'T HAVE TO ADD THEM IN ORDER FOR THEM TO DEPOSIT IT, JUST HAVE THE PERSON SIGN THE CHECK AND WHO EVER HAS THE BANK ACCOUNT (they have to sign the check too) with both signatures, deposit the check and your all SET!!!
